The rise of the Man Bag

I’ve had a really busy week since getting home from the Brancepeth Castle Craft Fair. Monday saw me driving nearly 300 miles home but despite this I’m buzzing with new ideas for some new bag ranges and ideas for jazzing up the stall. You cannot underestimate the buzz I get from talking directly to so many customers and how these chats give me new ideas. My new superhero bags proved to be very popular along with my first Shopper ‘Amina’ bags so I also have a fair bit of re-stocking to do.

Up until this point the majority of Man bags I have made have been in response to bespoke orders. I’ve used a range of fabrics to make sure the exteriors of these messenger bags are showerproof, practical and sufficiently masculine. I’ve now tracked down some fabulous waxed cotton in navy, dark brown and olive green. From chatting to clients it appears that Man Bags should either be fairly large or relatively small (specific huh?) so I’m starting out working on some bags based on the ‘Lolly’ and ‘Tillys’ will follow. The bags will be padded and include a zipped internal pocket and a keychain.

When it comes to linings I still want my lovely handcrafted bags to have that something special. As a result I’ve been searching out a range of distinctive and unusual cottons to line my new man bags. As i write I’m contemplating the fab new fabrics I’ve ordered in prints celebrating circuit boards, nostalgic games and superheroes. From Pacman to Thor I’m hoping to inject a little fun into a smart and practical man bag.il_340x270.626166771_13u6il_570xN.442096865_68quimage_20140107201102
